Timothy Wu, Moderator

Timothy Wu is the Executive Director of The Battery Foundation, which operates all Battery Powered programming. Tim has extensive experience in the philanthropic/nonprofit sectors as a grantmaker, fundraiser and volunteer.

Trained as a lawyer and a journalist, Tim has held leadership roles in organizations addressing disaster relief, environment/conservation, technology and social justice. He was Deputy Director of the September 11th Fund, which distributed $530 million to 9/11 terrorist attack victims, and Special Assistant to the President/White House Fellow to President Bill Clinton.

Tim's volunteer board service includes arts, health, education, media and philanthropy. He was the youngest person and first Asian American elected to Princeton University’s Board of Trustees and currently sits on the boards of College Track, Tectonic Theater Project, Save the Chimps and the San Francisco Ballet.

Tim earned his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, and his BA, summa cum laude, from Princeton University. He received Project Open Hand’s Volunteer of the Year award and the American Foundation for AIDS Research National Award of Courage.

Tim's primary qualifications for moderating this panel include his possession of an AARP membership card, his excitement at Walgreen's monthly "senior discount day" sales, and the fact that he can now hear his bones creak both when standing up and sitting down. His new favorite quote is, "We are old and hot....just like the sun."
