Model and Strategy
Activists across the U.S. are doing heroic work combatting sexual violence. They do so with limited resources. As women’s rights face an uncertain future, it’s more important than ever to support, strengthen and unite with these activists.
Women’s rights organizations tend to be under-resourced. As a result, they can’t afford tools and training that would enable them to innovate and scale their advocacy efforts, awareness campaigns and ability to provide much-needed services.
Anti-sexual violence Activists that join Tech2Empower gain new tech and communications skills, connections with each other and with expert Advisors from the tech industry. They learn to expand their fundraising approach and donor base, efficiently manage limited resources, run effective campaigns, and better connect beneficiaries with services.
Tech2Empower USA will provide Activists with tech tools, resources and skills so they can accelerate their work in communities where women’s rights are most at risk.
Impact
Tech2Empower works at the intersection of capacity building and cross-cultural exchange to strengthen and scale the work of women’s rights Activists, and to engage women across sectors to contribute their expertise and resources. Each interactive workshop brings women from leading tech companies (Advisors) together with Activists addressing issues critical to the rights of women and girls. Advisors train on tech tools and also visit the anti-sexual violence organizations to learn first-hand about the challenges facing women’s rights in the local community. They gain new perspectives and understanding of how tech can be used to help vulnerable populations, informing how and for whom they develop technology, and together with the Activists they train, create a sustained network working together for women’s rights.
The Tech2Empower training and network create critical capacity building for Activists and their organizations, empowering them with the latest technology tools, training, and resources to amplify their work for women in their communities. When Activists are able to effectively create and manage their own websites, online safety and privacy, social media platforms, online fundraising, and advocacy campaigns at low costs, their organizations are able to reach a wider audience and devote more time and resources to direct services. Long-term this leads to expanded services for women in need, and more effective advocacy to influence policies and public opinion.
