Planned Parenthood Northern California

Reproductive Health and the Fight to Keep Our Doors Open

Model and Strategy

Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) works daily to ensure that every woman has the resources and care she needs to live a strong, healthy life and fulfill her dreams—including unique family, education, and career aspirations. For decades, they have empowered people to be proud and in control of their bodies, and challenged the cultural narrative around sexuality, stigma, and women’s roles.

PPNorCal has stood as an ally and advocate, from the early days of family planning to the first birth control pills in 1960. From the fight for safe, legal abortion to the HIV epidemic, when they were the first affiliate nationwide to offer testing.

Today, they continue to innovate and respond to a changing healthcare landscape, and massive shifts in technology and culture. PPNorCal remains on the forefront: battling the STD outbreak among youth, providing transgender hormone therapy, addressing mental health through counseling, and fighting to preserve health care for all.

Impact

We believe that women—and their partners/families—can only thrive emotionally and economically when they can access affordable health care, including family planning and reproductive choice.

We believe in educating youth and adults to systemically change behaviors toward women that are discriminatory, violent, and/or disrespectful.

We believe in acting as allies and empowering vulnerable populations including LBG/Transgender, those in poverty, people of color, the undocumented, and victims of rape/abuse.

We believe in trusting individuals to know what’s best for them, and providing them with information to make well-informed decisions about sexuality, family planning, and childbearing.

We believe in the power of prevention, especially in regards to cancer screening, STDs, and unwanted pregnancy. We believe in leveraging community collaborations and partnerships to benefit from each other’s strengths and reach large, diverse populations.

We believe every person needs support fulfilling their unique decisions about pregnancy—whether that means avoiding pregnancy, not wanting to continue with pregnancy, or giving birth to a healthy baby.

We believe in cultivating and harnessing individuals’ passion for social justice and reproductive freedom.

We believe in safeguarding all we have gained in the past 100 years for future generations.

We won’t go back and we won’t back down.
