Community Arts Stabilization Trust

Tenderloin & Central Market Arts Collaboration (TCMAC)

Model and Strategy

TCMAC pilots a prototype for replication in other cities facing the dramatic erosion of its creative sectors. This project is a permanent, affordable solution to the real estate market forces driving out and displacing artists and arts organizations from cities. Breaking new ground in the arts, TCMAC creates a new path to stabilization for the arts and advances inclusive community, economic, and cultural development in urban centers.

TCMAC’s early success has been driven by unprecedented, public-private partnerships among leaders in the fields of philanthropy, government, real estate, and economic and community development. The arts are now at the table, inspiring equitable development among these sectors.

With secured homes, 509 Cultural Center and CounterPulse can focus on engaging the diversity of narratives from emerging artists, veteran creators, and community leaders in organizing visual and performing arts programs that are accessible to and reflective of the Bay Area.

Impact

The longterm impacts of TCMAC include the following:

1. Recognition as a viable model for arts and culture stabilization, despite market volatility, in urban centers–– locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally

2. TCMAC is replication in urban centers around the US and world, potentially reaching 10.9M people in SanFrancisco, Oakland, and London

3. Tenderloin regains its former glory as the art and theater district of San Francisco

4. Arts and culture sector stands a greater chance of stabilizing and gaining value

5. Increase in number of capable, sustainable arts organizations in various cities
