Model and Strategy
The Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation's Eddy & Taylor project has two primary aspects, both of which will contribute to the creation of a vibrant and affordable city for everyone, at all income levels. Eddy & Taylor will be providing 98 permanent and affordable homes to low-income families, housing 300 people. Secondly, Eddy & Taylor will provide a grocery store.
The Tenderloin has no grocery store, and many of the area's residents buy their food from corner stores. Although TNDC is a leader in the Healthy Corner Store Coalition, which is aimed at encouraging store owners to increase healthy food offerings, a full-service food store would be a huge boon to the neighborhood and the city as a whole. Research from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation shows that increasing access to fresh, nutritious foods is effective in decreasing rates of childhood obesity.
