Model and Strategy
At Jewish Vocational Service (JVS), the best solution to poverty is a good job. The organization's goal is to make sure that anyone who wants to work can get the skills they need to land a good job. JVS training programs move participants out of poverty and into living wage jobs through a model that combines classroom training with paid internships. JVS gives vulnerable job seekers the opportunity to earn-while-they-learn, eliminating the primary barrier low-income people face to pursuing training. Employer-driven training programs equip clients with the skills they need to get in-demand jobs with growth potential, develop long-term career resiliency, and attain the security needed to build a stable home for themselves and their families. JVS supports clients' professional development by providing access to technology, computer courses, and a wide range of workshops designed to teach clients how to conduct an effective job search in today's increasingly digital marketplace.
A JVS Community Health Worker (CHW) training program will feature hard skills training that is developed in partnership with employers, soft skills training tailored to the culture of the employer organization, job search and job readiness training, paid work experience that lets participants earn while they learn, continued engagement with participants and supervisors during the paid work experience to support communication and client coaching, wraparound services which help clients identify and overcome potential barriers to success, and post-training placement support.
