Model and Strategy
Rather than accept the loss of our communities, Causa Justa :: Just Cause (CJJC) is taking bold steps to lead an effort that will address the Black displacement crisis. The Black Priorities Project (BPP) will provide a structure for grassroots Black community engagement needed to win healthy, stable communities. BPP leaders will reach out to local community members and to those pushed out of communities for insight on how gentrification threatens Black people in San Francisco. BPP will create a policy platform based on findings and make a case for equitable development toward a vibrant San Francisco.
The Bay Area is now at the center of the national gentrification and displacement debate, and CJJC is poised to build a united base of leaders that can advance both Black organizing and the struggle against displacement. The Black Priorities Project can leverage the lived experience of Black families in our communities towards progressive change.
Impact
Redefine and Politicize - Engage in public debates about gentrification, displacement, and "equitable development," particularly naming them as racial justice fights in which the leadership of directly-impacted Black people is required.
Organize and Expand - Increase work across an entire region positioning CJJC to fight gentrification in San Francisco - Bayview / Hunters Point and the Western Addition/Fillmore neighborhoods (pop of 50,247).
Outreach and Educate - Conduct 5 Know Your Rights trainings for 100 new BPP members with political education that deepens unity among members.
Grow BPP leadership - Involve 20-40 active leaders in one-on-one learning sessions: and BPP Leaders will help organize 6 direct actions that will bring public attention to a BPP platform document.
Assess Conditions and Launch a BPP policy platform - Synthesize the issue identification process into a short report on Black Regional Resilience.
Launch a platform based on findings.
