Bridge Housing Corporation

Model and Strategy

With Rebuild Potrero, BRIDGE is preparing over 1,300 of San Francisco's poorest residents for a major community revitalization that will integrate them into the social, economic and physical fabric of the greater San Francisco community. As one of four HOPE SF redevelopments, Potrero Terrace and Annex (PTA) presents a rare opportunity to bring families living at both ends of San Francisco’s disparate income scale into a shared community.

BRIDGE is replacing the existing public housing with affordable and market rate housing, reconnecting PTA's streets to San Francisco's grid, and building retail amenities, gardens, and community spaces. In order to make these physical changes count, BRIDGE is also investing heavily in the people of PTA. Community building activities focused on developing trust and strengthening relationships among economically and ethnically diverse neighbors are preparing residents to take advantage of the new opportunities for social and economic change.

Impact

Housing: energy efficient housing that will be indistinguishable by income, quality management that will ensure continued maintenance and public safety, and units affordable to a range of incomes.
Neighborhood: improvements to the walkability score, increased transportation access, more open and green spaces, increased programming and employment for young people, and coordinated neighborhood based services.
People: increased participation in job development programs and health and wellness activities, greater parental involvement in community services and education, improved early childhood education, K-12 education, economic security, and public safety.
