Model and Strategy
This project will demonstrate that integrated livestock/rowcrop farming systems reduce water waste and improve carbon storage. Renowned researchers will monitor and publish the proof of the environmental benefits; the research will inform future policy and other projects. These same farms will offer an innovative meal-kit-based CSA 2.0 program to large institutions with captive audiences (employees, faculty, patients/staff). Socially-conscious businesses and organizations which participate will help promote healthy food systems and support responsible production with their purchasing power. The project will increase both the supply and demand for locally, sustainably-grown food and reward land stewardship and resource conservation. It will make emerging farmers who employ sustainable, organic disciplines more competitive in a crowded market.
Impact
The integrated crop livestock farming system will result in an increase in carbon storage and a decrease in water
waste to combat rising atmospheric carbon levels and drought conditions. Refined marketing materials and
expanded outreach efforts will bring a rise in sales with large-scale partners for maximum consumer impact. These
efforts will be designed to be replicable and scalable for the greatest regional resource impact. The goal is a
relationship-based food system, driven by benchmarks in sustainability.
