Model and Strategy
Rocketship families have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and the needs we have historically seen among our communities were and continue to be exacerbated by this crisis. We have seen our students struggle with social, emotional, and mental health challenges at higher rates and as we continue to navigate the pandemic, it is critical that our most impacted students get the mental and emotional support they need to continue to learn and grow academically and thrive socially and emotionally.
At Rocketship, we foster a strong school climate for students, school staff, and families to ultimately develop our students into confident, competent, and self-motivated lifelong learners. As our families continue to navigate and recover from this pandemic, Rocketship will provide case management to connect our students and families to the local agencies that will meet their needs. Rocketship is known for building strong relationships and connections with our families and local agencies. We must ensure our families have the resources they need to rebuild and thrive.
Impact
Allow us to Meet Urgent Needs for Mental Health & Wellness Supports: At Rocketship, we foster a strong school climate for students, school staff, and families to ultimately develop our students into confident, competent, and self-motivated lifelong learners. To accomplish this, we must prioritize Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Family Engagement & Advocacy, and Partnerships. This grant would give us the capacity to expand and deepen these programmatic elements by hiring a Community Schools Manager (CSM) to support our 13 Bay Area schools for the next 2 years and beyond. The CSM will prioritize specific services like food assistance, health services, counseling services, job, and housing assistance.
Close the Learning Loss Gap Caused by COVID-19: The best way schools can help students catch up academically after a year of distance learning is to ensure they feel safe, secure, and connected to their school community. As we continue to navigate the pandemic, we understand that our response must encompass – and in fact, focus on – ensuring our most impacted students get the support they need to continue to learn and grow academically and thrive socially and emotionally. We will prioritize and elevate our whole-child approach to education, ensuring our students are healthy, safe, engaged, and supported.
