Generational Recovery Fund

Generational Recovery Fund

Model and Strategy

The Generational Recovery Fund’s purpose is to collectively act to support youth in recovering from the disconnections—from each other, from school and learning, and from their futures—of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a regional pooled fund, the Generational Recovery Fund builds on philanthropy’s strength to raise $15 million for today’s youth, in order to provide and expand wellness, academic learning, and youth workforce services across Alameda, San Francisco, West Contra Costa Counties and more. The Fund is convening to collectively invest in this generation of youth and disburse general operating grants to community organizations. Services that are likely to be funded include: increased structured play and sports at all OUSD and SFUSD elementary schools; quality arts education for healing; academic intervention in all 27 SFUSD middle schools; wellness support groups in secondary schools; and jobs for high school students as tutors for younger youth. The Fund will commence disbursements in summer 2021, and will remain active for five years, recognizing that it will take time for youth to recover from the traumas of the last 12+ months.

Impact

Stronger, sustainable systems that allow young people to grow and create a better, more just world.
