Kathya Correa Almanza

Kathya Correa Almanza is a senior at June Jordan School for Equity. Her passion for education is connected to attending a school where she has the chance to learn about her heritage and history. Her education gave her the tools to be a leader in the classroom and in her San Francisco community.

Kathya has been the recipient of the Koshland Young leader award in 2020. Having strong facilitation experience Kathya led healing circles for the Free Mind Free People conference in 2019. Possessing strong leadership abilities, she was chosen by the Student Advisory Council to represent them at the SFUSD Board of Education as a student representative and has had the chance to see behind the scenes what shapes students' education. Kathya says, "I see exactly what is lacking in our schools but what is working as well."

Kathya will be attending Boston University for the next four years and plans to continue her work there.
