Crisis Text Line Takes on The Bay Area!

The Crisis Text Line data corpus has the volume, velocity, and variety to be extremely meaningful to external parties. The org has decided this data set should be open. Borrowing from the University of Michigan, they have established 3 levels of open data collaboration: Level One: General trends are available at CrisisTrends.org Level Two: Geographic and issue partners can utilize keywords that generate custom datasets. They have launched this with Atlanta, Chicago, as well as issue-specific organizations. Level Three: Message level data is available to researchers who submit proposals for non-commercial use and are approved by the Crisis Text Line Ethics Committee. Researchers can learn, for example, what is the relationship between weather patterns and depression? Crisis Text Line currently has the largest mental health data set in the world. Imagine how researchers, journalists, school board members, politicians, and police departments in the Bay Area might use this data?! Finally, their decisions will not be guided by political persuasion or anecdote, but by facts and trends.

Crisis Text Line, the 911 for mental health crisis.

Crisis Text Line would like to be the 911 of crisis messaging. The intention is to be the ONLY national text line, preventing data fragmentation and needless expense to other cities/orgs. With an expanded budget, we would first blanket all major cities with marketing for the text line as well as widespread Crisis Counselor recruitment efforts.
