Rubi Salazar is a full-time student at the College of San Mateo. She sat on the executive board of the San Mateo Youth Commission for two years and was the chair of the immigrant youth committee for the Commission where she guided the committee on immigration-related issues, especially affecting youth.

 

Rubi previously worked closely with Half Moon Bay City Council to help Half Moon Bay become a sanctuary city for immigrants. She helped reduce alcoholic beverage signs in Half Moon Bay corner stores alongside the Coast Side Youth Council, an action civics group she attended for three years.

 

Rubi is currently an Immigrant Justice Fellow for the UCLA labor center where she gives know your rights trainings across San Mateo County. She is also working with the Youth Leadership Institute to host a youth-led School for Immigration Justice. Rubi is also working on a anthology project that will capture immigrants voices from different generations. The project aims to help change the narrative on immigrants in the U.S.
