Model and Strategy
Democracy Works is turning the internet into an onramp for voting by building tools that make it easier to understand and participate in elections. Our long-term goal is to achieve a moonshot of 80% voter participation. For the 2020 general election we aim to reach historically high voter participation from a diverse cross-section of the U.S. population.
TurboVote, a project of Democracy Works, helps Americans vote in every election--local, state, and national. TurboVote tracks every election and then sends users text and email reminders about how and when to vote. It helps voters get registered, apply for an absentee ballot, or simply receive information about when and where to vote on Election Day. With over 8 million current users and growing, we believe we'll make voting easier and more accessible for over ten million voters by November.
Impact
A quarterly increase in the number of people who arrive to TurboVote and decide to sign up and provide their registration address.
A quarterly increase in the number of TurboVote subscribers who successfully register to vote.
TurboVote users cast a ballot in the 2020 general elections at a 5-percentage point higher rate than the national 2020 general election turnout rate.
From the beginning of the year until November 1, 2020, twice as many TurboVote users identify as a young voter, a new voter, or a voter with a disability.
