Jake Matilsky

Jake Matilsky is the founding director of the Center for Secure and Modern Elections, a multi-state
project that advises and funds state-led efforts to create more efficient and secure voting systems. Over
the past three years, the center has supported initiatives across the country including automatic voter
registration in states like West Virginia, Utah, Alaska, Nevada, and Washington. The center also works in
supporting states in the implementation processes of those initiatives in an effort to assist election
administrators across the country.


Jake began his career organizing and has served on candidate campaigns at the state and local level. He
has consulted with foundations, organizations, and individuals seeking to optimize their investments in
policies, with a focus on the democracy space. Before getting involved in elections, Jake worked on a
ranch in Montana and spent his early twenties as a Hotshot Wildland Firefighter for the National Park
Service.


Jake lives in Vashon, Washington and enjoys fly fishing, cooking, hiking, and snowboarding. He holds a
B.A. in international relations from Columbia University.
