Model and Strategy
One Acre Fund has an incredible asset: it has discovered an innovative approach to vastly increase the productivity of farmers, who make up the majority of the global poor. The organization now aims to scale as quickly as possible; it is poised to directly end hunger for one million rural farm families by 2020, and will continue to grow steadily thereafter.
One Acre Fund's growth is a result of careful expansion strategies; the organization continuously launches in new districts while simultaneously penetrating deeper into its current operating districts. Toward this end, One Acre Fund is requesting an anchor grant of $250,000 to more than double the scale of its program in western Kenya's Kabonda District, reaching 9,000 farm families in total by 2017. Every one of these families will receive One Acre Fund's complete bundle of services, immediately eliminating chronic hunger and placing them on a long-term pathway out of poverty.
Impact
Double the size of the Kabonda District operations by 2017, reaching over 9,000 families and 36,000 children
Boost the average incomes of farming families by over 50%
Transform life for a farm family, ultimately reversing the troubled region's epidemic of hunger and poverty
