Model and Strategy
In carrying out a multi-year project focused on agriculture, Global Fund found that most women in the marginalized communities they support in Burkina Faso, Kenya and Uganda reported food insecurity – meaning that their families eat one meal per day. Global Fund's proposed project will empower women to address food insecurity and human rights at the household and community level.
Through the project, women-led, grassroots organizations will provide women farmers with agricultural training, tools, networks, and income sources. This integrated approach is grounded at the intersection of agricultural productivity, poverty alleviation, and human rights. By focusing on Burkina Faso, the project will help alleviate pronounced poverty and food insecurity in the context of severe climate change. Through this opportunity, women will be empowered to design locally relevant solutions while becoming better farmers and leaders.
Impact
Greater access to information, resources and technology that increase agricultural productivity and food security.
An increase in agricultural yield and output, number of meals eaten per day, and income among rural women.
The ability to scale the initiative to additional rural communities in Burkina Faso.
