First Graduate

Believe, Achieve, Inspire: 1st Generation Education Success

Model and Strategy

First Graduate (FG) empowers students to become first generation college graduates who disrupt the economic trajectory of their families, communities, and of San Francisco--breaking the cycle of poverty for generations to come.

Consistent with a pivotal 2016 World Economic Forum report, FG ensures students, the workers of the future, have the soft skills to compete in every job market. FG imbues students with grit, integrity, emotional intelligence, and a deep belief in themselves. FG students have two goals: graduate from college and build professional experience, ready for jobs now, jobs in the future, jobs period.

With courage, resilience, and support, students adapt. FG accelerates student growth and amplifies students’ strengths through personalized coaching, access to mentors, internships, and jobs. With an efficient and proven model of success that works with San Francisco students from the 7th grade through college graduation, FG’s small staff creates big results.

Impact

Through early intervention and long-term engagement, individualized coaching, parent participation, career development, establishing a peer network, and leveraging strategic partnerships, marginalized opportunity youth in San Francisco will have college as their first option, resulting in a significant expansion of the talent pipeline to fuel the local economy, and improved civic engagement within underserved San Francisco communities.
