Quiet Time for Young Children, pK-3

Model and Strategy

Early childhood stress and trauma have a negative impact on cognitive development and health later in life. CWAE has developed an effective in-school stress management and cognitive development program for youth ages 9-18 known as Quiet Time which has received world-wide attention. The purpose of this project is to develop a similarly effective program for younger children, so we can begin addressing these problems earlier in life, and achieve a greater cumulative effect.

Impact

The first step is to develop a successful, high-impact model for systematic stress reduction in grades K-3. Since that has never been tried for our youngest children in public schools, it will be a major accomplishment to achieve this during the two years of this project. Once we have made that step, we can then attempt to replicate the model at another school, and eventually an entire school district. During this period of initial replication, we will continue to evolve and refine the model so that someday it can be effectively, and efficiently, replicated on a national scale.
