co.lab

Learning Games and Edtech Accelerator

Model and Strategy

The demand for high quality learning games is increasing as we become more connected and as devices become more affordable. co.lab aims to help companies create impactful digital experiences for teachers, students and parents. Learning games are effective education tools but many startups struggle to scale their products while maintaining high-quality products that are both engaging and have a strong pedagogical underpinning. Nearly two thirds of K-8 teachers report using digital games for instruction in the US and 97% of parents are sharing their mobile devices with their children. With this growing interest in and use of learning games, our purpose at co.lab is to identify and grow the most innovative developers who are focused on transforming the digital experience for early learners. By helping our companies scale their products, we are impacting millions of children globally and helping to shape the future of education for a new generation of digital learners.

Impact

We plan to continue operating co.lab for the foreseeable future, our commitment to the space is not limited by the scope of this grant. After two years of operating our program we have completed 4 cohorts for a total of 25 companies being accelerated which in turn currently reach more than 25 million users. Keeping at the current pace, we can safely estimate that by 2017 we will be reaching 50 million users (which corresponds exactly to the total 2015 US PK-12 population) by the work with do with the companies that come through our program.
