Nishan Degnarain

Nishan Degnarain served as the Chair of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Agenda Council on Oceans where he helped establish WEF’s Special Initiative on the Ocean and was instrumental in brokering the Tuna Traceability Declaration at the UN Ocean Conference in 2017. Originally from Mauritius, Nishan sits on the board of the National Ocean Council of Mauritius as well as the Monetary Policy Commitee of the Central Bank of Mauritius. He was recently named as a Special Advisor to Ocean Elders. Nishan holds degrees from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and the University of Cambridge. He recently authored Soul of the Sea in the Age of the Algorithm, highlighting how the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ can radically transform ocean governance and restore ocean health.
