California Environmental Justice Alliance

Building the Environmental Justice Movement in California

Model and Strategy

During this volatile time of pandemic and social uprising, CEJA is building democratic, equitable solutions that empower frontline communities to advance a just recovery from the impacts of poverty and environmental racism. In solidarity with environmental justice community leaders, CEJA is setting the terms of environmental policy debates in California. Over the last 5 years, CEJA has secured landmark California climate and energy policy victories that place equity at the center and invest in the communities most impacted by pollution and the climate crisis. We have shifted the political and policy landscape by elevating environmental justice values, principles, and priorities in statewide decision-making. Key objectives for 2020 and 2021 are to achieve key milestones to: - Phase out fossil fuels - Democratize 100% renewable energy - Electrify transportation - Hold elected and appointed state officials accountable to environmental justice communities  - Further build CEJA’s civic engagement capacity to advance policy priorities
