Earl Lui
Program Director , California Wellness Foundation
Earl Lui is a lawyer turned program director who manages the Fostering Healthy Environments program area at The California Wellness Foundation in San Francisco. Because Earl is passionate about food – making it, eating it, sharing it – it is especially fitting that one of his grantmaking priorities is increasing access to healthy food in underserved communities. As Program Director, Earl, funds organizations that help neighborhood stores in low income communities sell fresh, healthy food; establish new healthy food outlets such as farmers markets and community gardens; and offer comprehensive nutrition and healthy food education for adults. He believes that food can be a powerful force for community building and increasing equity. Prior to joining Cal Wellness, Earl was senior attorney at Consumers Union’s West Coast office. Prior to that, he was staff attorney for Public Advocates, Inc., and a litigation associate with the law firm of Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro. He earned his law degree from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
