The Reset Foundation

Bay Area Residential Campus Launch

Model and Strategy

The Reset Foundation is creating an education-focused alternative to prison—one focused entirely on building lives and bettering communities. Instead of going to prison, young adults live at a Reset campus—a supportive environment focused on education, career, and healthy living. In Fall 2015, the Reset Foundation seeks “first-in” private funding to open and operate a residential campus for youth sentenced to one to three years for a non-violent crime, who otherwise would have been sent to prison. Participants will be enrolled in classes and other skill-building activities, and will be assisted in preparing their re-entry through housing, employment and community service placements.

Impact

75% of participants will make at least two years of academic progress for each year enrolled
All participants will leave the campus with housing and one education and/or career option in hand
The 3-year recidivism rates of program graduates will be at least 20% lower than a similar group in a state facility
Reducing recidivism by at least 25% would result in $20M in taxpayer savings over the five-year pilot phase
