Model and Strategy
The Quest for Democracy Policy Academy will train formerly incarcerated people to advocate for humane and effective reentry policies to be instituted at the state and local level. By involving people directly impacted by incarceration as leaders in the policy-making process, the project takes a holistic view of public safety that ensures all stakeholders have a voice in solving problems caused by mass incarceration.
Impact
30% or more of academy graduates participate in advocacy campaigns after one year.
15 academy graduates are leaders in policy advocacy campaigns at the state or local level after three years.
Policymakers adopt two or more policies that reduce incarceration, increase reentry services, and/or reduce discrimination against formerly incarcerated people, after three years.
50% or more of academy graduates report improvement in how they are treated by policymakers and the public after two years.
