Model and Strategy
The purpose of the Paws For Life program is to train and continue to rehabilitate rescued dogs with the aid of prison inmates—increasing adoption rates and space for additional canine rescues. It provides an avenue to re-build lives by restoring a sense of worth and meaning to both participating inmates and rescued dogs—two groups cast aside by society, but who still possess the potential for good.
Paws for Life (PFL) breaks down the barriers between free society and prisons by bringing positive rehabilitation to the prisoners which helps them reconnect with their own humanity and heal.
Impact
22 rescue dogs trained and awarded their AKC Canine Good Citizen certification upon completion of each 12-week session.
30-45 inmates (directly) during three 12-week programs.
500-600 inmates (indirectly) through the calm and positive environment created as a result of program sessions in the prison yard
25-30 adoptive families or individuals who adopt Paws For Life trained dogs.
