Model and Strategy
Inside Circle Foundation breaks the cycle of incarceration through the examination and processing of core traumas (e.g. childhood abuse). ICF “resets” the neurobiological baseline, creating environments for people to take full responsibility for past transgressions, thus maturing psychologically and spiritually to achieve the inner development necessary to become healthy, contributing members of society. In these environments the ICF primarily utilizes self-help discussion groups and creative writing techniques such as journaling, autobiography, and poetry to achieve the inner development necessary to become healthy contributing members of our society. ICF programs consist of weekly group sessions with groups of 8-15 inmates, each staffed by 2-3 trained facilitators. Four-day intensive program retreats are provided biannually to each weekly group.
Funding will support three critical areas of expansion for ICF: 1) the 2015 expansion of ICF into the Solano Prison, 2) scaling of operations to provide re-entry support after release, & 3) launching of the program evaluation and research program.
Impact
Emotional regulation, empathic attunement, accountability to understand the impact of behavior, cognitive tools for reality testing, decision-making and problem-solving algorithms to develop competencies.
The use of other metrics that have been empirically proven through similar evidence-based projects will be reviewed by the ICF research team and approved by the Institutional Review Board for Research with Human Subjects at the University of San Francisco.
