Community Coalition

Eliminating The Cycle Of Incarceration

Model and Strategy

Community Coalition (CoCo) aims at improving public safety and education systems in Los Angeles County, which has the greatest prison population in California. By advocating for supportive policies, strengthening re-entry services and creating alternative pathways beyond the justice system, this project aspires to close the revolving door on our prison system. The main players targeted are the social service sectors, the schools, and the caregivers of children with incarcerated parents. CoCo will assert its community-based, school transformation model across LAUSD and LA County to create an education system that lifts the voices of its youth and creates a supportive environment rooted in the specific needs of its students, parents and community residents. CoCo will reform the public system to invest in classrooms not prisons, rehabilitate rather than isolate and promote human rights over human suffering.
