Citywide Case Management Forensic Program

Misdemeanor Behavorial Health Court Re-Entry Housing Project

Model and Strategy

Participants in a groundbreaking new San Francisco Misdemeanor Behavioral Health Court (MBHC) will be placed in Supported Housing with the goals of: connecting to mental health services; seamless community reintegration; and permanent housing. By focusing on treatment, participants will end the cycle of homelessness and incarceration and recover lives lost to untreated mental illness.

The MBHC Housing Project will serve San Francisco residents who suffer from serious mental illness, homelessness and are cycling through the San Francisco county jail with low-level misdemeanor charges.

Impact

Provide stable housing for 40 or more individuals over the course of three years in 6-month increments
Reduce the number of arrests and jail bed days post-participation in MBHC
Connect a majority of participants to long-term mental health services
Transition a majority of participants to long-term housing
Successfully graduate a majority of participants from MBHC with no further charges
Maintain the strong collaborative partnerships developed
Make progress towards securing ongoing funding in order to expand the program and increase our knowledge about what works with this population
