Californians United For a Responsible Budget

Strategic Grassroots and Online Communication Plan

Model and Strategy

While polls show Californians strongly support alternatives to incarceration and are opposed to building more prisons, we haven’t seen a corresponding shift in policy. CURB’s project will make this invisible majority visible by turning people with passive opinions into active change-makers. It will build statewide power for parole and sentencing reforms to sustainably decarcerate California. CURB’s Strategic Grassroots & Online Communications Plan will use cutting-edge digital strategy integrated with a tried-and-true model of community organizing to build statewide political momentum around key reforms. Through a series of local trainings and forums, CURB will sharpen the grassroots organizing skills of its members and reach a broader audience in communities across California.

Mobilizing people to take action at the local and statewide level to sustainably decarcerate California’s prisons and jails.
Supporting key policy changes, including: reducing the number of jail beds constructed in three counties, implementing a new sentencing reform measure at least once a year, and expanding at least one parole reform.
