Model and Strategy
The Good Samaritan Project provides services and support through faith community involvement, bible-based life skills groups and non-traditional case management. Enrolled participants receive services for a period of one year. The Good Samaritan approach surrounds clients with a community of support to help combat resistance and fear of change, and to replace these negative emotions with new pro-social aspirations, goals, intrinsic motivation, behavior change, and life-changing results.
California Youth Outreach accepts referrals from criminal justice agencies, courts, other faith-based organization and individuals seeking services on their own. Participants in the Good Samaritan program attend weekly support groups that focus on basic principles for living according to the Bible (bible studies). Participants are provided encouragement and support as they develop a moral, pro-social standard of living that builds capacity for them to access services on their own in the future.
Impact
Connect individuals to the faith-based communities/members that offer support and encouragement during re-entry.
Improve pro-social behaviors that will impact self-sufficiency, recidivism and personal relationships through Life Skills groups, Care & Support services and Crisis Response.
Provide essential services for one year, at which point participants are less likely to re-offend.
