Bridge the Chasm

Tender Shoots To Deep Roots: a Preschool - Grade 8 Program

Model and Strategy

Bridge the Chasm works to stop the school to prison pipeline before it starts—with personalized, hands-on education programs. The Tender Shoots to Deep Roots program is designed to bridge the gaps in students’ math education and lower dropout rates overall. Bridge the Chasm educators transform elementary mathematics and foster competence, creativity, and curiosity in their students that extends far beyond their time in the classroom. Middle school students receive additional Life Skills courses that open up healthy communication about a range of issues in school and at home. These sessions encourage students to practice healthy communication in a safe, neutral environment.

Impact

Increase in standardized test scores of Bridge the Chasm elementary classes that are significantly higher than in schools that did not participate, beginning the first year of testing.
All students, including those considered to be behind grade level competency or experiencing trouble at home, show progress with number fluency in all operations.
Students have the freedom to persevere in problem solving and produce accurate work with practice.
At Frick Middle School, the efficacy of Life Skills training will be demonstrated by a change in the classroom climate and student attitudes.
The middle school program will see reduced rates of suspension and increased productivity among students.
In the long run, more students will pursue higher education and viable employment upon graduation.
