$1.3M Given to End Extreme Poverty
•
The Battery Powered program has reached its biggest milestone yet. This June, Battery Powered members were inspired to take their generosity and commitment to the next level, getting together to give an unprecedented $1.3 million to organizations working to end extreme poverty by 2030.
For the first time, Battery Powered congratulates four Awardees that will receive full project funding, and four additional winners that will receive partial funding. These organizations are true pioneers in their approach, their commitment to innovation and exceptional leadership, and their belief in a future free from global poverty.

ABOUT THE AWARD
Battery Powered Awardees receive more than money. In addition to a fully funded project, they get special recognition in The Battery space and will be featured as winners on the Battery Powered online platform. Along with publicity opportunities and the endorsement of the Battery Powered membership, this award signals the beginning of an ongoing relationship with the organizations, who will be invited back to the club to share their progress and meet with members who might want to go further with their support. The membership is taking a “once an awardee, always an awardee” approach. That means the community will be hearing more from these wonderful organizations in the future, so stay tuned!

ABOUT THE EXTREME POVERTY THEME
We are at a key moment in time in which to take action and support global efforts to end extreme poverty in this lifetime. 2015 marks the starting point for a new surge of coordinated action spurred by the UN to eliminate extreme poverty by 2030. Though projections to 2030 are optimistic, the number of people who remain in extreme poverty—an estimated 1.2 billion —are some of the hardest to reach. The Issue Brief explores three different settings where people in extreme poverty face a distinct set of challenges: rural poverty, urban poverty and displacement poverty. This theme runs March through June 2015.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Battery Powered launched in Fall of 2014, a member-founded, member-funded program made possible by Michael and Xochi Birch and the philanthropy team at Amplifier Strategies. The program is designed around themes and helps members discover and combine personal passions with collective influence for social impact.
If you have a passion for philanthropy or you want to learn more about how the program works, send us a note and share your story: [email protected]
We're also hosting a lunchtime Information Salon on Battery Powered on Wednesday, June 17th, 12-1pm in the Musto. Come by and hear about what we've been up to this year! RSVP at: www.thebatterysf.com/event/1014/
