Battery Powered Awards $1.01M to Reunited States
Battery Powered is excited to announce the grants made under its Reunited States theme. As a community, our giving circle raised and granted $1.01M to ten extraordinary organizations working to overcome political polarization to fortify our democracy and society.
This funding culminates four months of learning focused on two domains of strategic intervention for countering polarization: Media & Information and Civil Society.
We are honored to support the critical work of a portfolio of organizations that are creating a more unified and inclusive United States.
REUNITED STATES GRANTEES
Bipartisan Policy Center Action
$190,500 to deliver the bipartisan support necessary for cross-the-aisle legislative action in Congress: moving individual members, building coalitions, and cultivating champions who support legislation grounded in quality research and policy recommendations.
$128,900 to bring together Americans with differing political beliefs to hold respectful and constructive conversations, foster understanding, discover shared values, and work together for a stronger democratic republic.
$250,000 for the ALGO Incubator, which will incubate three scalable projects that harness generative AI and rewire social media algorithms to detoxify online interactions at the audience, commenter, and platform levels.
$148,000 to deploy advocacy, organizing, legal action, research, and field coordination to curb online hate and disinformation, push for online privacy and civil rights protections, and foster a well-funded noncommercial media sector.
$246,200 to develop and promote a unifying narrative that resonates with Americans of all genders, generations, races, regions, and parties, in order to reduce hostility, close perception gaps, and surface alignments that transcend categories.
In addition, grants of $10,000 were made to each of the following extraordinary organizations: New_ Public, Othering and Belonging Institute, Latino Media Collaborative, One America Movement, and United for Respect.
