Battery Powered Awards $1 Million to Recovery & Resilience Organizations
We are pleased to announce that the Battery Powered community awarded $1 million to organizations as part of our Recovery & Resilience giving theme!
For the past several months, we have focused on understanding and meeting the immediate needs of Bay Area families and communities hardest hit by the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, while building the voices and movements that can guide us toward a stronger, more inclusive economy going forward. The recipients of a Battery Powered award are each addressing different facets of this complex challenge - from food insecurity to the rights of essential and front line workers. We are pleased to present the recipients of a Battery Powered grant under this theme.
Eat.Learn.Play $250,000 to provide free, fresh meals and produce boxes to thousands of children and families in Oakland, and ensure vital income to local restaurants and farms struggling as a result of the pandemic.
Mission Asset Fund $250,000 to provide zero interest, credit-building loans and 1:1 technical assistance for small businesses led by people of color as part of their COVID Small Business Innovation Fund
Spark* SF Public Schools $160,000 to provide free breakfast, lunch, and supper to San Francisco's public school students struggling the most as a result of the pandemic, reducing the threat of food insecurity in our community.
Springboard to Opportunities $159,800 to change the narrative around poverty by elevating the voices of participants in the Magnolia Mother's Trust, the first guaranteed income project centering the needs of low income Black mothers.
CalMatters $106,300 to use the power of quality journalism to inform Californians about and hold political leaders accountable for the crucial decisions and initiatives needed to create an economy that lifts all residents.
Additionally, grants of $10,000 were made to each of the following exceptional organizations: Economic Security Project, Emergent Fund, Expecting Justice, Family Independence Initiative, Liberation in a Generation, National Domestic Workers Alliance, and United For Respect.
