Running to Stay in Place

What an inspiring Expert Night - Women’s Health and Wealth. Our conversation was moderated by Battery Powered’s Executive Director, Colleen Gregerson, who welcomed opening notes from Anita Bhatia, the Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of the UN Women. Anita spoke eloquently, reminding the audience, “the latest available global data show that the world is not on track…UN women's annual report on progress on the sustainable development goals... shows that at the current rate, full gender equality may take close to 300 years to be achieved.”

Our experts were divided into the two focus areas - health and wealth. The CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California, Gilda Gonzales, and Donya Nasser, a gender equality advocate and Board Member of Global Fund for Women as well as the International Planned Parenthood Federation, kicked off the health portion of our conversation.  Gilda shared the impact of overturning Roe Vs. Wade on her work in Northern California, but also nationally, “Roe was never enough because there were already states implementing restrictions. So when we think about going forward, we need [a] blueprint that is bolder…” These appeals to healing the communities of women both locally and internationally were a tough but much-needed conversation. Colleen then invited our two experts, whose focus was wealth. She welcomed Anne E. Price, Co-President and Founder of The Maven Collaborative, and Sarah Henry, the President Global Center for Gender Equality. The conversations were dynamic and knowledgeable and left the audience feeling inspired and excited for this spring theme.
