Battery Powered Awards $1.03M to Information Paradox

Battery Powered is excited to announce the grants made under our Information Paradox giving theme. Together, our community raised and awarded more than $1 million to ten extraordinary organizations working to strengthen our information ecosystem—expanding access, reducing harm, and helping people navigate an increasingly complex digital world.

We are honored to support the vital work of these grantees.

INFORMATION PARADOX GRANTEES

Affording America

$128,095 to equip Americans most impacted by the cost-of-living crisis with plainspoken content that builds economic understanding, strengthens information literacy, and fosters civic confidence.

Capital B News

$60,000 to produce trustworthy national and local reporting by and for Black communities, delivering culturally competent journalism that informs daily life, demands accountability, and builds civic power.

Cityside Journalism Initiative

$50,375 to deliver independent, community-centered reporting on Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, and the greater East Bay, strengthening civic engagement and filling gaps left by shrinking local papers.

Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas

$74,833 to create healthier information spaces across the Americas, countering disinformation and fostering civic participation in Latino and Latin American communities.

Institute for Strategic Dialogue - US

$119,647 to develop intelligence, policy, and training to counter disinformation, extremism, and hate—equipping state and local officials, civil society, and communities to build resilience in the digital age.

KQED

$256,500 to support flagship public media station producing trusted journalism, cultural storytelling, and media literacy education that reach millions of Californians through radio, television, digital platforms, and live events.

Meedan

$108,950 to build open-source digital tools for verification, translation, and fact-checking, helping journalists, researchers, and communities counter mis- and disinformation across languages and borders.

San Francisco Public Press

$50,000 to publish investigative, explanatory, and solutions-based journalism on under-covered San Francisco issues to inform residents and hold local institutions accountable.

TechCongress

$117,674 to embed technology fellows in Congressional offices and state legislatures, building bipartisan capacity for evidence-based policymaking on AI, data, online safety, and emerging tech issues.

Tectonic Theater Project

$69,375 to inspire people to engage new ideas, explore complex questions, and shift perspectives through groundbreaking, social justice focused new plays and innovative community educational programs.
