Simple, but not Easy

On the day that preliminary new figures on homelessness were released for Bay Area counties, the Battery Powered community met to continue our conversation about how we can ensure all Bay Area residents have access to affordable housing and homelessness is rare. This new data show a 9% increase in homelessness across the region - and yet thousands have also exited homelessness during this time.  That’s because new households are falling into homelessness every day, primarily as a result of our housing crisis.  In short, if we cannot solve the housing crises, we cannot solve the homelessness crisis in the Bay Area. 

At Organization Night for our spring 2022 theme on Housing & Homelessness, we met 10 organizations working on solutions. They spanned the 3 Ps of solving the housing crisis: Protect households from becoming homeless in the first place, Preserve existing affordable housing, and Produce new housing across all income levels, particularly affordable housing, which is in shortest supply.
