Battery Powered Awards $1.37 Million to a Healthy Democracy

The Battery Powered community collectively awarded $1.37 million to organizations empowering all people to participate in our democracy.

Throughout this theme, Battery Powered focused on how we can support efforts to ensure that everyone is counted equally, voting is free and easy, our representatives look like the communities they represent, and they react to public opinion over special interests. We are pleased to introduce the recipients of a Battery Powered award who are doing just that:

Campaign Legal Center - $250,000 to end partisan gerrymandering through the courts and at the ballot box by supporting states to adopt independent redistricting commissions.

CommunityConnect Labs - $250,000 to educate and activate volunteers who will ensure 575,000 people in marginalized communities are counted to ensure a fair and accurate 2020 Census count in California.

Groundswell Action Fund - $300,000 to resource 501c4 organizations led by women of color, low income women and transgender people in order to amplify the voices of those most excluded from our democracy.

IGNITE - $250,000 to train and support 3,000 young women across 20 states to advance legislation that impacts them and their communities.

Represent.Us - $250,000 to establish a national campaign hub that will provide critical tools and support to democracy reform movements that are unrigging American politics city by city and state by state.

Additionally, grants of $10,000 were made to each of the following organizations: Alliance for Youth Organizing, Democracy Works, Ethnic Media Services, Generation Citizen, iCivics, Million Voters Project, and Take Back Our Republic.
