Battery Powered Awards $1.28 Million to Conservation

The Battery Powered community collectively awarded $1.28 million to organizations protecting, preserving and restoring oceans and tropical forests in some of the most biodiverse spots on the globe.

The challenges facing our oceans and tropical forests oftentimes seem too vast for us to make a difference, but the organizations selected for a Battery Powered award prove that there is so much we can do and it is not at all too late to restore some of our most precious resources.

We are pleased to introduce the recipients of a Battery Powered award under our theme Conserving our Planet:

As You Sow $250,000 to drive corporate change as shareholder advocates to slash the flow of plastic waste from global companies into oceans.

Captain Planet Foundation & Lonely Whale $300,000 to launch a Youth Activation Initiative to advance the skills of passionate, young, global change-makers to act on plastic pollution and its impact on the oceans.

Carnegie Airborne Observatory $250,000 to advance coral health mapping and enable large-scale conservation management of coral reefs in the Hawaiian Islands and around the world.

Point Blue Conservation Science $160,800 to test solutions and recommend shipping practice changes to reduce commercial ship strikes on whales along the West Coast.

Surfrider Foundation $250,000 to activate a grassroots force on California’s central and northern coasts to fight recent federal oil drilling that threatens the state’s marine and coastal areas.

Additionally, grants of $10,000 were made to each of the following organizations:  Amazon Conservation, Global Conservation, Global Forest Watch, Mongabay, Rainforest Alliance, Rare, and Turtle Island Restoration Network.
