Battery Powered Awards $924K to Climate Action
We are pleased to announce that the Battery Powered community awarded just over $924,000 to organizations as part of our Climate Action giving theme!
Over the past several months we have gathered virtually to learn more about what it will take to create a sustainable and equitable climate future. The urgency of this theme was impressed upon us in many harrowing ways: the worst wildfire season on record in 2020, orange skies across the Bay, a recent snowstorm in Texas that brought the power grid to the ground.
But we also learned that with bold action, we can still avoid the most catastrophic effects of climate change, mitigate the damage already done, and do it in a more equitable way. The organizations we've met over the past few months are doing just that, and we're pleased to share below the recipients of Battery Powered funds under the Climate Action theme.
As You Sow | $192,250 for shareholder advocacy that compels climate action and racial justice from large corporations and the institutions that finance them.
California Environmental Justice Alliance | $123,875 for a coalition of grassroots environmental justice organizations advancing California policy solutions for energy equity and climate justice.
Pepperwood | $250,000 to develop and disseminate tools for agencies and communities in fire-prone regions in California and beyond to predict, prepare for, and adapt to wildfires.
Point Blue Conservation Science + Zero Foodprint | $139,200 for Ground Truth, a scientific, cultural, and economic collaboration to accelerate the transition to regenerative agriculture in California.
WildAid | $149,025 for a wide-scale, consumer-focused campaign and government partnerships to reduce meat consumption in China by 20% in the next decade.
Additionally, grants of $10,000 were made to each of the following exceptional organizations: The Center for Cultural Power, The Climate Center, The Climate Reality Project, Future Coalition, InfluenceMap, Just Transition Fund, and Movement Strategy Center.
